Chin filler improves projection, which balances the chin against the nose and lips in profile and often sharpens the jawline as a secondary effect.

The chin does more work in facial proportion than most patients realise. A chin that sits back relative to the nose and lips shortens the lower face, softens the jawline and can make the nose appear larger than it is. Patients frequently arrive asking about their nose or their jaw when the chin is what is driving the impression.
Chin filler adds projection, height or width depending on what is needed. In profile, it brings the chin into a more balanced relationship with the nose and lips. From the front, it can lengthen a short lower face or improve symmetry.
At Dr Ellie Sateei’s London clinic this is one of the treatments most likely to be recommended in place of something the patient came in for. Results vary between individuals.
Chin treatment is structural, using a firmer product placed deep, often against the bone. Because the chin is a low-movement area with dense tissue, results hold well and read as structure rather than as filler.
Assessment is done in profile as well as from the front, which is not universal practice and matters here more than anywhere else. Dr Sateei considers the relationship between chin, lips and nose together, because treating the chin in isolation can create as much imbalance as it corrects. Where the jawline has also softened, chin and jaw are usually planned together, since projection at the chin gives the jawline something to run towards.
Small volumes are used first where you would rather build gradually.

Chin filler may suit you if you are looking to:
It is not the right treatment where the concern is a double chin caused by fat or by skin laxity beneath the jaw, which is a different question entirely. It is also not appropriate where dental or skeletal alignment is the underlying cause, in which case Dr Sateei may recommend an orthodontic or maxillofacial opinion rather than filler.
As an injectable treatment, it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Treatment takes around 30 minutes. Numbing cream is applied and most products contain lidocaine, so discomfort is generally mild. Most patients return to normal activities immediately.
Mild swelling or bruising can occur and typically settles within a few days. The chin holds its shape quickly, so the result reads close to final within a week.
Chin filler generally lasts twelve to eighteen months. Because the area is structural and moves relatively little, it is among the longer-lasting filler sites.

“A lot of patients who ask me about their nose are actually looking at a chin that sits too far back. Bring the chin forward a few millimetres and the nose stops dominating the profile, without touching it. It is the treatment that most often surprises people, because it is not the thing they came in about and it is a smaller intervention than the one they were expecting to have.”

Yes. That is its main purpose. Assessment is done in profile as well as from the front, considering the chin against the nose and lips together.
Often. Projection at the chin gives a softening jawline a defined point to run towards, which is why the two are frequently planned together.
It can reduce how much the nose dominates the profile by improving the balance around it, without treating the nose itself.
Most patients return to normal activities immediately. Mild swelling or bruising can occur and typically settles within a few days.
Following chin filler with Dr Ellie Sateei, most patients return to normal activity the same day. Some swelling and tenderness at the injection points is expected in the first day or two, and light bruising is common. What you see in the first week is not the result. Filler settles and integrates with the surrounding tissue over the following two weeks, and the shape you are judging on day two is not the shape you will have on day fourteen. Dr Sateei will have set out the timeline with you at consultation, and it is worth returning to it rather than assessing too early.
Hyaluronic acid filler draws water to itself, which is why the treated area often looks fuller at first than it eventually will. Aftercare in the first few days is about leaving the product where it was placed and not encouraging more swelling than necessary: no pressure, no heat, no vigorous exercise. The skin itself needs very little, so keep the routine plain until any tenderness has gone.
To prepare for your appointment:
On the day, clinical photographs and consent are completed if not already done, the skin is cleansed thoroughly, and topical anaesthetic is applied for comfort. Treatment takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes following preparation.
You may notice:
None of this is the result. Please do not assess the outcome at this stage, and avoid photographing it for comparison.
For the first 24 hours
For the first few days
A cool compress, used gently and without pressure, may help with swelling in the first 24 hours.
There is an immediate change, but it is not the final one.
Chin filler may not be appropriate if you have:
Suitability is confirmed at a full medical consultation before any treatment is carried out. When Dr Sateei judges that chin filler is not the right approach, she will say so.
Please contact the clinic if you experience:
Chin fillers are often planned alongside these.

Chin filler changes the proportion of the lower face more than its size suggests, and it is frequently the answer to a concern about something else. If you are considering it, or considering your profile generally, the most useful next step is an assessment in profile with Dr Ellie Sateei at her London clinic.
