Eye Bags

Eye bags are one of the most universally recognised signs of tiredness, and one of the most common reasons patients ask Dr Sateei about non-surgical treatment.

What are eye bags?

Eye bags are one of the most universally recognised signs of tiredness. Dr Sateei takes time to understand your under-eye structure to determine whether a non-surgical approach is likely to help.

What causes eye bags?

Under-eye fat pads are normally held in place by supporting tissue that weakens with age, allowing the pads to bulge forward, known as fat pad herniation. Genetics, fluid retention, sun damage and lack of sleep can all contribute.

Signs and Symptoms

Soft puffiness or bulge beneath the eye, often worse in the morning. A shadow or groove frequently forms between the bag and cheek, and skin may look thinner or crepey.

Treatment options

Polynucleotides support the skin’s natural repair, improving firmness and softening puffiness and dark circles. Skin boosters improve hydration and elasticity. Where the tear trough groove is significant, carefully placed filler can soften the transition. For more established bulging, non-surgical treatment tends to offer a more modest improvement, and Dr Sateei will always give you a realistic picture of what to expect for your particular presentation.

Eye Bag FAQs

What causes eye bags?

Weakened support allowing fat pads to bulge, plus genetics, fluid retention, sun damage and sleep.

Can eye bags be prevented?

Sleep, hydration and sun protection help minimise temporary puffiness.

Which treatment for eye bags is best?

Depends on the cause; polynucleotides/skin boosters for quality but filler is recommended for the tear trough groove.

Can filler remove eye bags?

Filler doesn’t remove the fat pad but can blend the shadow it creates.

Is eye bag treatment painful?

Mild discomfort so topical numbing cream is available.

Is there downtime to eye bag treatments?

Some mild swelling/bruising possible, usually minor.

When will I see results to the treatments?

Gradual for polynucleotides and boosters but sooner for filler.

Who is suitable for eye bag treatment?

Assessed individually via consultation.

Will non-surgical treatment fully resolve my eye bags?

It can meaningfully improve appearance for many patients, though results vary depending on how established the bulging is.

Do eye bags always come with dark circles?

Not always, though they frequently occur together.
