Juläine is a poly-L-lactic acid injectable, usually shortened to PLLA, that works beneath the skin to prompt your own collagen production. Over the following months it may improve firmness, structure and the quality of the skin above it. It does not occupy space the way a dermal filler does, and it does not produce a change you can see at the appointment.
That is the whole point of it rather than a shortcoming. The improvement is your own tissue, built at the pace tissue is built, which is why it tends to read as better structure rather than as treatment.

Juläine belongs to the same family of PLLA collagen stimulators as Sculptra, formulated as a newer generation of the same chemistry.
Once injected, biocompatible PLLA microparticles sit within the tissue as a scaffold. Your fibroblasts, the cells that manufacture collagen, respond to that scaffold by laying down fresh collagen around it over the following weeks and months. The PLLA is gradually broken down and absorbed. The collagen remains.
PLLA provides very little immediate effect, and this is where it differs most from the other biostimulators used at the clinic. Radiesse, a calcium hydroxylapatite product, gives immediate structure alongside its collagen response, which is why it costs from £690 and works well where some visible improvement on the day matters. Juläine works almost entirely through the collagen response, over a longer period, for a longer-lasting result. Neither is better. They answer different questions, and the £1,885 course price reflects two sessions rather than one.
If you would like to see a change on the day of treatment, this is not the right choice. If you would prefer an improvement nobody can attribute to a treatment, it usually is.
The number of vials and the areas treated are decided at consultation, because they depend on what your face needs rather than on a set protocol. Juläine is generally not used near the eyes or in the lips.

It is not the right choice ahead of an event in the next few weeks, because the meaningful change takes months. It is not the right choice where a defined hollow needs filling, where a hyaluronic acid filler is more precise and can be dissolved. It is generally avoided in the tear trough and the lips.
As with any injectable, it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Because PLLA cannot be dissolved in the way hyaluronic acid can, your medical history, any autoimmune condition, any history of granulomatous reaction and any previous filler in the area will be reviewed carefully at consultation. That single fact is the most important thing to understand before proceeding, and Dr Sateei will make sure you do.
Treatment is delivered across two appointments spaced a few weeks apart, which is how the £1,885 course is priced. Some patients need a third. Each appointment takes around 30 minutes depending on the areas treated, and numbing cream is applied.
No post-treatment massage is required, which is a practical advantage over some older PLLA products. Most patients return to normal activities straight away. Slight redness or swelling immediately afterwards usually settles within 24 hours, and minor bruising at injection points is possible.
Results are progressive by design. Very little happens in the first few weeks. Collagen builds gradually over the following months, with continued improvement for up to around six months after the final session. Visible benefit may last two to three years, which is considerably longer than hyaluronic acid filler in most areas. Results vary between individuals.
